      Hello from Canada!
Great website! I am an 47 yr. old amatuer triathlete and runner who will be in the Philippines visiting family from Jan. 28th to Feb.21, 2008. I will be in Manila briefly, but mostly northern Mindanao and Cebu City. Does anyone know of any races in that time period? I prefer half marathon (21.1 PB = 1:30:05:-) but anything less would be fine.

    17. Geri Says:

HI…any newly updated list of races for 2008? More power

    18. Nolan Says:

I’m hoping the Gintong Pangarap Half-Marathon will still push thru. Half-marathon races are rarely being scheduled, so it’s a chance for us, 10K/16K, runners to improve to 21K.

By the way, most of the finishers in yesterday’s UP Century Run were complaining about the lenght of the route. It seemed like it’s longer than the usual 10K lengths that we all usually run in other races. I for one who usually timed at 47 minutes, had completed yesterday’s Up Run at 52mins 20secs. I hope somebody from the Organizers can check on this. The same applies on the 5K.

Thanks, and more power to the Bullrunner.

    21. Black Sigil Says:

Ditto with the Centruy Run distance… Though not as accurate as the Garmin, my nike kit registered the 5k run as 6.88k, while my brother who clocks in at 45mins for 10k clocked in at 48 mins this time.

Thanks for the ’08 schedule 🙂

    22. Beni Ancheta-Veloso Says:

Thanks again for posting all future races…
Hope to see you at subic…and other races

    23. Mark Says:

ICTUS Run was 10.9 according to 2 of my friends who ran with their Garmin. Ako, di nagising. 😦

I hope organizers will make an effort next time to properly measure the course of the race. If its 10.9 then say so. Last time it happened to us it was at the addidas run for love. It also happened at the Yakult 10 miler. Wait! It seems to happen to almost every race.

For the price we pay, they can easily afford one garmin to measure the distance right? Actually they can just use a car’s trip meter.

    24. Tina Says:

Mark, Nolan thanks for the feedback on the Ictus Run. I was quite worried about my time because it was my reality check for a future race. Agree, with Mark, organizers should seriously look into the distances . Runners are very anal when it comes to numbers.

    25. Nolan Says:

      To Ateneo Aquathlon Organizers:
Thanks for organizing a race of this kind. This is a new experience for runners like us. It’s really interesting.
However being new to this, we’d like to know more details about the race; e.g. proper attire, how will be the transition from swimming to running?, do you a have a quota on the number of participants?, and also, where can we register for the race?

    26. Ani de Leon Says:

      Hi there!

Please include our event, the Pinay In Action Race and Expo on March 9, 2008 at the NBC Tent, Bonifacio Global City.

Thanks and hope to see you in the races!

    27. jovie75 Says:

Finally, the 7th DND-AFP Gintong Pangarap Half-Marathon will be held on 09 March 2008. Assembly Area–Grandstand, Camp Villamor Air Base, Pasay City. Details to follow..Thanks

    28. Steve Baker Says:

Musta? I’m planning on visiting the Philippines sa mga april to may, are there any marathons going on? I’m from seattle, WA and would love to run in the Philippines. thanks a lot

    29. Kenneth M. del Rosario Says:

      Hi bullrunner!! Nice site!

Anyways, kakatapos lang ng marathon kanina (The Bull Run @ Taguig). ang saya! nakaka-inis nga lang nawala yung timer nila so i didnt know what my time was for th 10k! grrr! 😀

    30. Nolan Says:

Yes, there was no timer to be found at the Start/Finish Line of the Bull Run. So I wonder if they have timed the runs of the participants.

Also, I noticed they adjusted the length of the race. With this route, runners would usually turn left immediately on the way to the memorial park towards the 10K turnaround point. But with yesterday’s Bull Run, the immediate left turn was skipped, instead runners were directed to straight ahead farther more, and then make a U-turn, before actually turning right now from this previously left-turn corner.
I believe that was a correct adjustment on the distance though, as there has been a lot of comments lately as to the length of previous races. I hope GARMIN users in yesterday’s Bull Run will confirm this.

Lastly, I also noticed there were changes in the usual spots of drinking stations. There are usually stations before the 3K turn-around point, at the 5K turnaround, and at the 10K turnaround. Yesterday, the 3K water station was still there. I did not notice if there was one on at the 5K turnaround (was there one?), and they put the last one way, way before the usual 10K turnaround point. I heard most runners, like me, were complaining about this, because we were anticipating to have a water break on the 10K turnaround point. By finding none, we were already insufficiently hydrated going to the next water station. That next one, which even ran out of plastic cups, is on the difficult uphill climb coming from the 10K turnaround point. So that made it more difficult.

I hope there will be better adjustments next year. The number of participants is getting bigger each year -so congratulation to the ORGANIZER! I hope you will attain your goal of having more people invest in the stock market. See you again next year!

    31. Nolan Says:

      UP RACES
Speaking of race lengths, there are two upcoming races at UP again this 3rd and 10th of February. Last January 13’s Century Run at UP was perceived, and I believed agreed, by most runners to be over-distance. Will the next two races’ Organizers correct this?

    32. liaa Says:

Weird question- I haven’t ran in ages… Do I need to hire a coach or something?? I am really intersted in trying out a run. Did you die the 1st time you joined these? Is it difficult? And what is normal time to finish 5k and 10k?Thank you Jaymie

    33. ritchie.alava Says:

      re UP RACES
I saw the 10km map route for the GIG run, it’s diff fr the Century run and accdg to the organizers tama daw length ng course. Bytheway Nolan, yung results ng ICTUS century run available na sa ICTUS.multiply, you check your rank or time.

    34. ritchie.alava Says: pala, sorry

    35. Tina Says:

Nolan, good you noticed the first 10k turn. I dont even remember the previous set up. I just noticed I was 3mins off from my Bull Run pace last year. Same as the Ictus run, this 10k was supposed to be my reality check for an upcoming race. Too bad I cant pin down my real pace because of inconsistent distances.

Calling on garmin users, can anyone verify the distance of the PSE Bull Run? It’s not just about the pesky 3mins. Point is that numbers mean a lot to runners.

    36. Mark Says:

If they need to measure the course, I can use my forerunner. I’ll post back once I get the chance this week.

    37. Nolan Says:

      Thanks Ritchie.
RUNdezvous’ organizer also told me they would look on the route of their race. I suppose they will have the same route now as the GIG run.

    38. DATC Says:

To those wondering about the length of the PSE Bull Run, it registered as 9.99km on my ipod. I attribute the missing 0.01km to the confusion at the start when we thought only the 5k runners were being sent off. I started running already when I realized I forgot to hit the center button.

    39. Mark Says:

There was a discrepancy of 10 to 20 meters but hey that’s pretty accurate already. Garmin 305 recorded a 10.03. Accuracy of the gps signal was +-4m so that’s ok. I havent had the chance to go to UP this week yet nor even open the race packet. Hehehe

I’ll post the distance of the gig race from what my F305 gets on friday.

“I believe that was a correct adjustment on the distance though, as there has been a lot of comments lately as to the length of previous races. I hope GARMIN users in yesterday’s Bull Run will confirm this.”

Here’s the PSE Bull Run 2008 data from my 305. (I wasnt able to press stop immediately. Lots of things going on at the finish line)

    41. Sherwin Says:

      Dear Bull runner,

Can I join the final Milo National Marathon without joining the elimination?
Where is the registration and contact number?

      Thanks for your informative advise.

      All the best,

    42. Kenneth M. del Rosario Says:

Oh yeah.. that was a bit confusing. I was like “Do i start running now or what?” because all along the organizers were shouting “get ready 5k runners.”

then suddenly, “pwede na tumakbo 10k….”

    43. Mark Says:

That confusion at the start probably caused me to miss my sub 50 target. Mwehehe

    44. Mark Says:

Ran the gig today. 10 km without my garmin 305 is like running with my eyes closed. For a good 5 minutes, I just had to whine why my forerunner wouldn’t power up. So I just had to go with my feel and instinct. Running since October might have taught me something even without the gadgets. I wish I brought my g shock to at least have a watch with me. Normally I run with my shuffle but I just had to keep it quiet this morning and concentrate on the 10km.

Running “naked” I now have a new PR! I knew it would have been faster if I knew exactly what distance and time it was. Clocked in at 49:25. My friend Charlie said that is 650 meters short based on his garmin. Friends of the organizers reassured that its really 10km. He must have taken the inside route then.

I saw a lot of familiar faces as well. Well, hopefully we all get to know each other soon. There’s this guy who have always overtaken me (since subic 21km and PSE Bull Run). Glad it was my turn to finish first this time.

For those garmin forerunner owners, here’s the link on how to troubleshoot your 305

I had mine powering up after that. My sunday is turning out really great. : )

    45. joe Says:

for those who ran the GIG run with garmins, was the gig run really 10k? just got a new PR so just wanted to make sure the distance was right… thanks : )
also, how come the organizers of the pasig marathon have not yet updated their website? just found out awhile ago that they’ve changed the route for this year… instead of starting at intramuros and ending at the fort, the race now starts at the marikina river amphitheater and ends at the qurino grandstand in manila. the shorter races start at km 0 in rizal park.

    46. Nolan Says:

Seems like most runners have recorded PRs in yesterday’s GIG run at UP. Hurray to all of you!!! I also recorded mine at 44:40! Mine is two minutes faster than my Bull Run the other week! I believe that Bull Run has already been established as a legitimate 10K race! I hope yesterday’s GIG run will also be validated. I felt the first 5K was longer than the last 5K to the finish, because I was timing 23mins+ at the turn when the 10K and 5K runners splitted. And I am usually slower at the turn.
Yes, hoping to know the familiar faces soon! How about having a BULLRUNNERS’s “get-to-know-each-other booth/station” on the next run?! With Ms. Jaymie’s permission, of course.

    47. ritchie.alava Says:

lahat yata tayo may new PR yesterday! you can now check the results of the UP GIG run at

    48. Mark Says:

      Gig Run Results Now Posted!

Ang galing nila, kahapon lang yun. Im still waiting for Subic and PSC Bull Run up to now.

      Mens 10km
      Womens 10km

The 5 k results are also posted on the site.

So far, there are 13 ladies faster than my time of 49:32 (delay in barcode dapat 49:25 hehehe) and 90 male runners. Hopefully I go up the rank every race.

Jaymie if you raced the 10km, baka 14 na mas mabilis sa akin ; )

    49. Mark Says:

With all of us having better times, there are only 2 reasons for this.
      1. Most of the course is downhill. That will explain our faster runs.
      2. Course is really shorter. My friend’s garmin forerunner recorded it at 9.35 Kilometers.

My forerunner wouldnt start that morning. Its working now after a soft reset. I couldnt measure it yesterday afternoon when I went to my friends resto since some portions were closed.

    50. joe Says:

9.35km?! hay, knew it was just to good to be true…
hey TBR, congrats on your fun-filled swimming foray! keep on swimming!

    51. Nolan Says:

GIG Run Organizer/s (see phone contacts on the above list of Races) just confirmed with me that last Sunday’s distance of the 10K run is actually 9.99K!

    52. roadrat Says:

i notice that we runners are very particular about the accuracy of the distance we run in a race. in the international races i’ve watched on tv, there is a painted line that when you follow should give you the exact distance of the race. stray from that line and you will not get a not so exact distance of the race. you cannot compare your 10k time with every race you run simply because of the differences in routes. the number of curves there are, a slight incline here and there, etc. all these differences should affect your time. for example, the milo 21k here in baguio 2 years ago was longer than that held here last year. let’s just run and have fun.

    53. Mark Says:

9.99? Roadrat has a point, depends on what route you take. Maybe that’s why experienced runners always take the inside curve. The 9.35km distance recorded on the Garmin is pretty accurate. However my friend did make sure he always got the innermost route. I wanted to confirm that using my unit but the roads were closed when I went back. So far, only the Animo run and PSE Bull Run are accurate to 10km.

Organizers can just measure the distance using the center route as a standard. Without kilometer markings in races, you cant help but doubt if they actually did the measurement right. The gig run definitely produced a lot of new PR for participants. Could it be the slight downhill in most parts of the course? Its just 650 meters short.

I’ve offered my help in the upcoming RUNndezvous at UP using my Forerunner to possibly measure the course and determine where kilometer markings should be placed. They have not contacted me so I assume all is well.

Its alright to just run and have fun. However our payment is not just for them to organize the race and give out race singlets. A properly measured course with kilometer markers (for those using a regular watch) is important. By the way, it took some time for us to locate the doctor during the gig run. My friend twisted his knee during the run. When we went to the tent, it was already a food station for some of the marshals. I even joked sarcastically that they should just call it a food station instead. The nurse and ambulance was also nowhere in site.

    56. Chai Says:

      Hi Bullrunner!
I really like your site. I have been interested in running for a year or so but haven’t really started/joined one yet. I don’t know why but maybe I was always scared to join thinking that maybe everybody is an experienced runner already and I might be left too far behind. But now I really want to join not to win the race but for health reason(coz’ I gained a lot of weight & want an enjoyable way of exercising) and I guess for the feeling of fulfillment as well. But my problem is, no one wants to join me since my friends does’nt like to. Somehow, this situation discourages me coz’ I guess It would be hard running by myself without knowing even just one person to talk to. What do you thinK? And would you mind to inform me of what to prepare or what I need as a beginner? Thanks!

    57. ashley Says:

      Hi Jaymie,

Did you get the file already?

To those familiar with Jack Daniels Running Formula, here’s a VDOT calculator I found that will make it easier to get your training paces. I used my example of 52 minutes for 10,000 meters.

    67. DATC Says:

Hi Jaymie, kindly post a link for Markfb’s PSE results so we can download it. The original PSE file was pretty uninformative.

      Thanks Mark!

    68. bullrunner Says:

DATC, I’m still trying to figure out how to post an excel file here. I’ll email you Mark’s file in the meantime. For those who want the file, just post a comment requesting for it so I can email to you.

      hi Jaymie,

Our company- Procter & Gamble, is organizing the Pringles Run- 5 k – this May 4, Fort Bonifacio. We’ll have some innovations (at least for local races) so do watchout for that. Could you be so kind as to post this race in your comprehensive list? Thanks in advance.

I’ll send you the draft poster as soon as eXtribe confirms the venue. From your list, looks like there’s no conflict yet.

March 30 is also the Mizuno race (5/10/ 15k)- Ige Lopez confirmed earlier.

Haven’t seen you in Mizuno in a while. I hope your therapy is going well or that your knees are recovering. I’ve been diagnosed with runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome). doctor told me to strengthen my quads and other leg muscles, take glucosamine sulfate and- stop running for two weeks. I did stop for 13 days (>2 work weeks); no pain so far but will continue strength training and glucosamine.

      see you around.

      Greetings from New York!

Just wanted to report to you what had just happened in Barrio Nueva Yorka.

With Paula retaining, dos Santos regaining and yes no Kenyans this time, a good number of Pinoys made walastikish sub-4 performances, Franchesca Carpo of Makati – 3:48, Leonardo de Ocampo Jr. of Muntinglupa – 3:55, Dino Paolo Pison of Bacolod – 3:40, Jon-Jon Rufino of Makati – 3:42 and Achtung, Achtung: MICHAEL MESINA – a bumubukol na 3:12 – HE IS BOSTON BOUND!

Other kabayans garnered fairly good bragging rights of overrunning the five boroughs, Roman Azanza – 4:25, Rosanna Kristine Cruz – 6:43, Ana de Ocampo – 4:16, Margarita Beatriz Locsin – 4:50, Rishi Mirani – 5:57, Gem Padilla – 5:02, Genea Padilla – 6:01 and Vicente Rufino – 7:17.

Her Royal Highness Jamby’s taray on Senadora Pia Cayetano may have been a distraction, as she finished 4:10, two minutes off her last NYC. Her ading Direk Lino Cayetano finished with a 4:38.

I had a crappy 4:22, having hit the wall at Mile 23, and literally dragged my feet around the peripheries of Central Park. No excuses though, I went to a gunfight armed with a butter knife.

This is one karera which one real runner should do before allowing themselves to die!

By the way, the digits above were made by silly Pinoys who travelled half way around the world from their respective sitios, not included are Pinoy yuez citizens, grin card holders or even TNTs.

    161. mikey Says:

      Another tidbit:

Of the three Carpo sisters, both Manda (3:39) and Leica (3:40) qualified for Boston. Unfortunately, Franchesca fell short by 8 minutes. Sayang!

    162. San Jose Says:

    163. Blue Runner Says:

Just got word that the QC International Marathon will be rescheduled from Feb 01, 2009 to October 19, 2009. Major bummer as I and probably quite a number of runners have been training for it and are close to reaching peak performance levels only to be told that the race will be moved a year!

Any suggestions as to what full marathon races are available Jan, Feb or Mar 2009? Is the Pasig River Run (ususally Feb) being run this year?

The only options I can find are the Standard Charter Bank sponsored races in Dubai (Jan 16) and HK (Feb 8). Any local races?

Hi! I started running in October and I’ve become addicted to the sport. =) Am still a beginner, of course, and I’d like to improve on my pace. However, I currently don’t have a watch that lets me measure my speed and distance.

Did a little research on the Net, and I’m deciding between a Garmin and a Timex Ironman. I would just like to ask the ff:

      1. Which Garmin/Timex Ironman model would you recommend for a beginner like me?
      2. And if Garmin would be a better choice, where in Manila can I browse/purchase for one?

      Thanks and God bless!

        Hi Gina,

Try the Garmin Forerunner 305 or 405 with HR (heartrate monitor) it gives you simple read outs and interface in speed(km/h or pace/km) & distance(km or mi).

        Where to buy in M.Manila:

No. 6 Ground Flr. Consolacion Bldg., Gen. Santos St., Araneta Center,
        Quezon City 1109
        Phone: 632 911 0690
