Thank God It’s Monday!

By thebullrunner

I’m so relieved the weekend is over.

To make a long, dreary, dreadful weekend story short, I learned—during what should have been an easy 5k run at Nike Run Clinic last Friday—that my knee still needs more time to recover.  (Note that I do not use the word “injury” as I’m fairly optimistic that I’ll be out and running again after a few days.  Crossing my fingers!  Cross yours for me too.  And, I hope my acupuncturist is doing the same.)

So, I had to pass on the Mizuno-Fuego Sunset race last Saturday.  Boo hoo.  And, the entire family took a trip to the mall instead where my little girl kept saying “I thought we were going to play in the sand today.” while the other one complained “So, I bought a whole can of Pringles last week for nothing?!”

As if I didn’t have enough reason to feel depressed, nature plays a cruel joke on me.  What’s the worst thing you can do to a woman when she’s down?  You make her feel fat and ugly.  I got my monthly period accompanied by stomach pains that Saturday.  So, as much as I tried to find comfort in Christmas shopping, I felt weak and tired all throughout the weekend.

Aaah, I’m glad it’s Monday already; it’s a fresh start.  I looked in the mirror this morning and I’d like to believe I don’t look like the evil witch that I was last Saturday.  As of this morning, I’m not brooding over the injury nor the missed runs anymore; at least, I’m trying my best not to do so.  I’m fairly optimistic that I’ll recover from this brief setback in no time as I’m a veteran when it comes to my runner’s knee; I pretty much know what my body needs to get back on track asap.

Hope you have a great week.  Mine will definitely be better than the weekend.

well it could have been worse, your car could have broken down on the expressway with nobody stopping to help and as you are about to use your cell, you find the battery to be flat. As you get out of the car to call for help, your foot hook on the bottom of the doorway and you fall and break your leg… well I could go on but I am sure you will now enjoy your week and not think your weekend was THAT bad, all the best sister.

Your funny! But you’re right! Things could’ve been a lot worse. Thanks for reminding me :)

Hope everything will turn out okay at your end. You deserve a rest after a grueling 21k at the Singapore marathon.

I met Miguel along Country Club Drive doing his run last Saturday. I was hoping you would be follow.

All the best and God bless!

Hi Ipe! I dropped him at AAVA and sadly headed for the gym for stretching and strength training. Half the time I was wishing I was on the road instead!

“Runner’s Knee”? I know what you mean, TBR. That’s what I had when I ran the half in HK this 2008 in Feb.

I researched on it and basically it meant that my quads were weaker than my hamstrings (from swimming I think). The quads should be strong enough to support the knee. So, I hit the weights focusing on the quads, and hit the bike too to strengthen my thighs.

That worked, and so far, the knee pain hasn’t returned. My two cents’ worth. =)

Hi Wency, that’s what my doctor told me too. So, I started weight training 6mos to strengthen quads, did drills taught by the PT, and started yoga. It worked actually. Just got busy the past 3 mos so less time for all of these and just ran whenever I could. Thanks for the info. I really should bike more.

I was thinking of sending over Fernando Zobel de Ayala to cheer you up, but he texted he is out of the country. ;-) So I just crossed all my fingers and sent a prayer request to our Master Knee Maker and Healer. I hope you are feeling better :-)

Hahaha! Uuuy, baka akala na niya serious ako ha. It was just a high school thing so I hope he knows he has no power over me and my knee. hahaha. Thanks for the prayers ricov.

xD Sorry TBR, but for once, I disagree with you. I wish the whole week was a weekend (no classes!) so that my birthday would have no classes :-)

    When’s your birthday cougcat?! :)

  14. cougcat Says:

    But, fingers crossed anyway :-D

    Yes please. Thanks :)
